(But That Probably Won’t Happen)

Editor’s letter

by: John Wenzel

Well, here it is the start of another year, making us all a year older. The only good news there is that people serious about poker now have another year of experience under their belts, and let’s face it – experience is huge in poker. No matter how much you read, you really have to actually be in situations before you learn. Some of those lessons can be painful (and costly), but they are behind us now.

So with our glasses filled and our hopes eternal, we can approach a new year fresh and optimistic and with (hopefully) well-funded bankrolls.

I hope 2010 is a  profitable one for us all. Here are some other things I am hoping for in the coming year, although I admit these things seem like total longshots:

I hope players will get TV face time for other reasons besides having big mouths and/or being obnoxious.

I hope chatbox and forum posters will act like what they are – average players – rather than experts.

I hope Luca Pagano finally winns a major event rather than just cashing. It is certainly deserved.

I hope I compete in the Irish Open, something I have always dreamed of doing but for one reason or another (usually work-related) it has just never happened – yet.

I hope poker rooms open up all over China, Japan and Southeast Asia, with citizens of these nations allowed to freely play online as much as they want, whenever they want.

I hope sponsorships are given to players on the basis of skill, rather than self-promotion or celebrity.

Well, that’s a few of my dreams. If you have some of your own, please feel free to send them to me. And good luck – and good skill – in the coming year.
