Have you noticed differences in the styles of play (or quality of play) between the different UK  cardrooms?

Well I don’t really play the “UK Circuit” as such! Although I did play 5 or 6 main events at different venues last year, because I wanted to find out more about my MTT game. The British tour is very tough and has        a very strong field of talented players, there are easily 100 or so, who are all more than capable of winning any of these events.
I would not say there are different styles or quality of play according to geographical areas. But I would say it is significantly noticeable that the small groups of players/friends that you get on the tour; i.e. the 3, 4 0r 5 guys who always travel together, drink and eat together. Their level of play is generally the same and there strategy and style is almost mirrored through the ranks.

When should I get or raise with a flush draw on the flop, and when should I just try to see cards as cheaply as possible?

There is no call option, its raise or pass and you determine one of those options according to the read you should have already formed with this player

I am in a cash game and both I and my opponent have stacks of 160. He makes it 40 to go preflop and I have a small pocket pair. Should I raise, call, or fold?

I am a firm believer in trying to build the pot a little on the flop, you need to use your skill to make the bet just right to let the drawer think he is getting his card for a valued price; and not force him into a big raise! If the turn is a blank, you can then bet much bigger with some confidence and if the flush comes on the turn, you have done the minimum amount.

who do you feel are the best tournament players in the UK?

The best tournament player last year was Marc Goodwin his results speak for themselves he was awesome. As for this year, ask me again in 8 months ha-ha! Seriously as I said above there are some nice players around, I think form, and confidence is everything so watch out for who has a decent WSOP.

What is your best advice for heads-up play?

Heads up play is a completely different animal. Its more about telling a story to your opponent and making them believe it whilst analyzing what they are trying to tell you. The momentum is now more important than any other part of poker so if you feel the momentum is with you STRIKE!

If you could give someone just one piece of poker advice, what would it be?

My one piece of sound poker advice, get a good woman or man quick so they can keep you sane.

How do you change your strategy for online play?

Online strategy is based around betting patterns and trying to collect correct information about your opponents, I suggest investing in some tracking software.

is it true that there are more bad beats online?

The reason players think the bad beats are worse on line is simple you’re playing far more hands hence you will see more.

When is it correct to lay down A-K preflop?

Always lay down AK pre-flop to AA or KK ha-ha, Okay you can normally tell when your AK is no good after a few consecutive bets and if you have no chips in the pot it is easy. Personally I can pass AK early in a tourney and not bat an eye lid but late on it is a very powerful hand.
