The problems in Darfur aren’t going away. Neither is the charity dedicated to eliminating them. Since the 2007 World Series of Poker, poker greats and celebrities have gotten together for the Ante Up For Africa charity tournament. To date, more than $4 million has been raised. Phil Gordon prevailed in this year’s event, which took place July 3. Although the win didn’t bring the poker ambassador and veteran pro his first WSOP bracelet, he wasn’t complaining. “I always wanted to win an event at the World Series of Poker,” Gordon said following the tournament. “Of course, it had to be a non-gold bracelet event, but I am thrilled to win such an important honor and am pledging all of my winnings to the Ante Up For Africa cause.” The cash was Gordon’s 20th at the WSOP. Actress/poker player Shannon Elizabeth (second) cashed for the second time in her WSOP career. Among those participating in early July were actor Matt Damon, Brad Garrett, former NFL great Jerome Bettis, Don Cheadle, Montel Williams and David Alan Grier.
