Freddie Ellis enjoyed quite a payday. A real estate broker from Brooklyn, New York, Ellis defeated Eric Drache to win the Seven-Card Stud World Championship, Event 6, at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. For the win, Ellis, 74, collected more than $370,000 and his first WSOP bracelet. Prior to Event 6, Ellis, who plays primarily in Atlantic City, had never entered a World Series tournament. “I started playing poker just to do something different,” Ellis said. “I only started playing in the casino when Atlantic (City) first legalized poker in 1993. My wife would come down with me on weekends, just to be with me.” Drache, 66, spent several years as the tournament director for the WSOP. Mel Judah, the owner of a WSOP bracelet, was 12th. Overall, 16 places paid. Event 6 Seven-Card Stud World Championship Buy-in: $10,000 Entries: 142 Payouts
